Does my watch need servicing?

Does your watch need servicing or just needs to be worn?

Hi, I'm Ogi and I'm a watch enthusiast.

You may have noticed your watch is not running accurately, but does that mean you need to find a watch mechanic, or can you fix that by wearing it.

The simple answer is - if you are wearing it regularly (at least 2-3 times a week), and it's running behind or too quickly, then YES, it does.

However, I wish to share the following story with you, about my brand new, unworn C.O.S.C. Certified Clerc H1 Hydroscaph Chronometer.

I got my Clerc on the 31st of December 2021 and tested the accuracy with a simple app on my phone.

It was brand new and unworn, running with a negligible beat error of 0.1 ms, but the divination was -18 s/d, which was worrying given the C.O.S.C. Certification. (See the first screenshot below)

I was advised to wear it for about 20 days, and then check the timegraph app once again.

I was eager to see how it was going, so I checked it on day 10.

I was relieved to see that my Clerc got to +2 s/d and the beat error was exactly 0.0 ms.(See the second screenshot below)

After running in, on day 20 the graph was almost arrow straight and the accuracy got to 0 s/d.(See the third screenshot below)

That's all and great, but what if you have an old watch.

A friend of mine had an old mechanical watch, that was never too accurate, but it was decent enough.

He hadn't worn it in about a year, and the watch became unbearable inaccurate, with a few minutes a day.

He was ready to get it serviced before I told him about my Clerc.

He decided to wear it for a few days, and it got back to normal rather quickly.

I hope my experience helps you save time and money on servicing a watch, that you might have not worn in a while, or maybe even gives you the desire to take out something you have left to sit inside the box.

Thank you, and goodbye.
